Hey Rory! Firstly, thanks very much for taking a minute to chat to us. How has you summer been going so far? Any highlights?

“Hi thanks for having me, happily I have many highlights! My sister had a big country wedding on the farm that my mum grew up on which was very good. I have moved into a new house with a man garage which is exciting. I spent a couple weeks writing in the Hebrides…which is the dream. Also found out I’ll be on tour opening for Robert Plant and his new band Saving Grace for a couple weeks so that’s a biggy. That one’s still kicking in actually.”

You just released your fantastic EP titled ‘Carefree’ – how did the EP come to fruition, and did you face any challenges when writing it?

“Well it was written during a time when the whole country was asked to stay in the house all day…which turned out to be quite a productive environment for me. I found daily discipline and structure easier to exercise…and also did a lot of exercise! Stopped smoking during this EP too which was strange.

My goal started out as an instrumental album…something I’ve been planning on doing for ages. It failed however…I couldn’t help but sing all over it.”

We’d love to know what’s currently on your playlist… are there any tracks that you can’t get enough of at the moment?

“Went to see Andy Shauf this year. I love the way he fits his lines into his melodies. Like a jumper that doesn’t really fit…but looks and feels fantastic. Bonnie Light Horseman have been a kind of soundtrack for me. When I feel like I’m in a movie its them I hear…though the movie is more miraculous than staring out of the kitchen window imagining I’m in a movie. Anais Mitchell has a new album out too which is sensational.”

Who was the first artist that resonated with you?

“Joni Mitchel and Jackson Brown Albums are my earliest memory. A Bright Eyes obsession closely followed. And Rage Against the Machine of course…who I have tickets for in Edinburgh this month!”

How are you feeling in the run up to your headline show in London on the 14th of September? We can’t wait to hear the new EP live!

“I’m feeling really good about it. I’m working up the set with a new line up. Just a guitar and vocals…but with three additional singers. It’s definitely the best feeling line up I’ve experienced so far for this material. The band also happen to be very old primary school friends of mine which is nice. We are having such a great time doing it.”
