5 Minutes with QuinzeQuinze

Thanks for taking the time out to chat with us! So, 2022 has been a year to remember for everyone! What have been your highlights?

“2022 was a quite cool year for us because the live shows were back, so we were able to make our first steps outside of France and played great festivals like Great Escape, We love Green, Nuits Sonores….”

You released your latest album ‘Varua’ in January. Do you have a favourite stand out track that you particularly enjoyed producing?

“It's probably the last song called Tapu Tepo, which means "Slice the night" in tahitian. The story takes inspiration from a special night in Polynesia : the spirits go out and wander around the islands. It is our favorite one because it merges different musical codes we particularly like using and experimenting. For example, bringing hyper-processed autotuned vocals in the middle of a track which sounds more "aged",” past”, is typically something we really enjoy. For the record, nobody understands the first beat the same and we had to give up agreeing on that…”

The incredible visuals that you use across your music videos and artwork for events/releases are a staple part of your branding as a group. How do you come up with such creative ideas?

“Well, first, thanks a lot ! Those visuals are created by Marvin, one of the five members of the band. They are often based on stories we had made up together before we began the music production. These stories are mostly inspired by the Polynesian culture and its oral tradition which use a lot of metaphorical images in its tales.”

Here’s one for all the music production nerds out there. As a group who extensively use DAW’s such as Ableton Live to create music, do you have any plugins you’d recommend to other production enthusiasts?

“We're not sure about recommending you a particular plugin. Grabbing a microphone and recording some rough material is definitely our first advice! All kidding aside, Melda Production makes funny and free plugins. Also, Tsi min says Garage Band's pitch is the best of all time while Julia’s using a lot of synths coming from the Arturia collection.”

2023 is fast approaching us now with only a month of 2022 left. What can we expect to see from QuinzeQuinze over the next year?

“The more we play, the better. We'll keep touring next year and will probably pay visits to the United Kingdom more often. Also, we are working on our first debut album which will be more contrasting than ever…We’re actually trying to make chill poetic and melodic songs get along with a big dark and dirty deck vibe (an electronic music style from Tahiti inspired by moombahton and reggaeton). It's not that easy but it'll surely be released during the year 2023.”

QuinzeQuinze will be headlining London at Moth Club on 28th November 2022, so make sure you grab your tickets; it’s going to be a show to remember! Keep up to date with the groups future ventures by connecting with them on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
